RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING FAQ’s
HOW LONG DOES COUPLES COUNSELLING TAKE?
Answer
It is hard to say, each couple is uinique and their circumstaces are all different. This will be discussed with you after we have discussed your needs. It is important that you are able to commit time, energy and resources to this process.
ARE ALL SESSIONS TOGETHER?
Answer
We try to keep couples together as much as possible as the difficulties are in the relationship and need to be resolved together. However there may be times when we do individual sessions. You can request an individual session.
WHAT IF MY PARTNER IS NOT KEEN TO COME?
Answer
It is common sometimes for one person in the relationship to be hesitant to attend counselling. There are three options:
1. You can attend on your own, individual relationship counselling can make a big difference in the circumstances.
2. Your partner is welcome to reach out and have a chat with us to discuss their concerns
3. They might like to attend counselling on their own for a while as well. We will usually place the other person with a different counsellor until you come together for couples counselling.
CAN YOU HELP WITH PARENTING?
Answer
Absolutely! Difference in parenting styles can be a huge source of conflict in relationships, not to mention the differences having children makes to your lifestyle, energy levels and motivation.
WHAT IF ONE OF US WANTS TO LEAVE?
Answer
In some circumstances a time of seperation may be needed or can be helpful – with appropriate boundaries around it.
These decisions are never taken lightly, particularly when there are children involved.
If one person wants to leave the relationship permantly and the other doesn’t – the next steps are going to depend on the circumstances of each unique relationship.
WHAT IF WE DECIDE TO END THE RELATIONSHIP?
Answer
That is entirely your choice. Sometimes a time of seperation (depending on the circumstances) can be beneficial. If you decide to seperate permanently we can help you to finalise the relationship in the best way possible with the least amount of pain and unnecessary conflict.
