Group supervision is a great way to connect, network and develop professional relationships with other counsellors while learning from the collective group of experience.
I offer group supervison every month for 2 hours per group. It is a cost effective way to maintain your ACA requirements and connect with others. The group has varied levels of experience and a wide variety of topics – but does focus more generally on counsellors in private practice.
Check out the FAQ’s below for common questions regarding group supervision.
Starting a private practice for the first time is a huge learning experience. Penny has been an amazing supervisor who has helped me to focus my intention and guided me through each step of the process. Penny is a knowledgable and supportive supervisor, not only helping me with my business but improving my skills as a counsellor as well.
Penny has been my supervisor for over a year now. I have found the one-on-one and group supervision to be a safe and non-judgemental space. Her supervision has helped me to find peers to connect with, provided information on dealing with real struggles within the occupational field and helped build my confidence through altruism. Penny is a supervisor who is friendly, authentic, and her various experiences within the occupation makes her examples valuable and diverse.
From my first individual supervision session with Penny I felt comfortable sharing my ups and downs of my new private practice. Penny always provides a safe space to share, she is warm, fun, caring and extremely knowledgeable about all things in the counselling space.I have also attended her group sessions which I highly recommend. I’ve attended a few other group sessions but Penny’s group is the best run group session, where everyone feels included and are able to contribute.Having Penny’s support and encouragement I’m able to feel more confident in my skills as a counsellor.
GROUP SUPERVISION FAQS
ARE YOU A REGISTERED ACA SUPERVISOR?
Answer
Yes I am
I am a Level 4 ACA Member and also a member of the College of Supervisors.
DO YOU SUPERVISE PACFA COUNSELLORS?
Answer
Yes I can provide superivsion to PACFA members but not group at this stage as my groups take up to 10 participants and PACFA only allow 6
HOW MANY SUPERVISION SESSIONS DO I NEED
Answer
It depends your client load, how experienced you are and if employed whether you receive in-house supervision.
ACA requires a minimum of 10 sessions per registration year to maintain membership. They also recommend a ratio of 20:1 (20 client hours to 1 hour of supervision)
However if you are seeing a high number of clients that is not enough accountability so please speak with Penny or your supervisor.
DO I NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH AN ASSOCATION TO JOIN YOUR GROUPS?
Answer
The short answer is yes!
However if you are in the process (e.g. just graduated and submitting application) OR are intending to register soon then please contact me to discuss.
I don’t supervise counsellors who have no intention of ever joining an association as I require adherance to a code of ethics.
I only accept ACA and PACFA as these are the 2 peak bodies
HOW MANY GROUP SESSIONS CAN I CLAIM?
Answer
Australian Counselling Association allow you to claim 2 hours of group supervision per month.
You are welcome to join more than one session a month – however you cannot claim more than one 2 hour block per month
DO I NEED TO COME PREPARED FOR GORUP SUPERVISION
Answer
Yes you do! Just as you would not attend individual supervision with nothing to discuss you always come to group with a question, topic, or concern.
I understand that some weeks people will share less and some personalities are less outgoing. However repeated non-preparation and sitting in the background will be addressed individually as this is not what supervision is about.
