PENNY ADAMS | PRINCIPAL COUNSELLOR | FOUNDER
My Approach
I have learned through journeying life and working with my clients that hope, resolution, and possibility do exist, that people have more resources and strengths than they realise, and solutions are available.
I fully believe that most of us want to change things in our lives but don’t know how to, don’t have the tools or support, or try to change too much at once and feel overwhelmed. I am here to assist you in accessing the resources within you so you can achieve your goals in a compassionate, safe and supportive space.
I have spent over 10 years working with relationships, families and couples as they navigate the seasons of life. I have trained in family systems, couples counselling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and others.

HELPING YOU TO FIND BALANCE DURING THE SEASONS OF LIFE
What to expect in our counselling sessions together
Our first appointment together will be a ‘get to know you’ session. We will ask you to share with your counsellor what you are hoping to gain from counselling and to also provide a bit of your story, current circumstances, issues you are facing and background.
You are welcome to ask any quesitons regarding the process or the forms and agreements that you complete.
The focus is on YOU and this may take more than one session.
Together we will then map out a way forward for you so that you can start to work towards reaching your goals and flourishing in life.
What Is Our Approach?
Evidence-based counselling therapies
As trained professional counsellors we aim to use evidenced-based therapies where suitable. If you have had counselling before and like a specific modality please let us know.
Integrated approach to counselling
You are the centre of what we do. No one counselling approach is adequate on its own. We integrate various approaches to suit your needs and personality.
Work outside of sessions
Counselling sessions are not enough to effect change. You have to go and apply what you learn in counselling. This means that homework is often set in session.
You are the expert in your life
Counsellors facilitate the process to support you to achieve your goals. Whilst have skills, tools and strategies – YOU remain the expert of your life and choices.

“Penny is an amazing counsellor who never judged me, she listened was supportive and was always very professional”
I contacted Penny when I was very lost in life and feeling as though I didn’t have a purpose. I was feeling numb, emotionless and very broken. Penny guided me and gave me the tools I needed for me to reconnect with my emotions and feelings in a way not to overwhelm me which then helped me find my way back to where I am today. I have goals and dreams and my relationships with family and friends has never been better.

Subsequent Counselling Sessions
Once you have had your first session we will find a time for you next session. The regularity of sessions is important so that we can build relationship and support you to succeed in reaching your goals.
Regular sessions are vital
Sometimes people come for 2-3 sessions and ‘feel’ better, they notice that the pain or discomfort might be less so they take a break. This is not recommended, just like taking pain killers numbs the pain but doesn’t remove the cause – temporary symptom relief of ‘feeling better’ doesn’t get to the root of the issue and most likely will not last.
What happens when I have met my goals?
First of all let’s celebrate all your achievements and strengths – you deserve it.
I would then like to let you know that you are always welcome to return in the future when the need arises. It is always best to get the support early before things become bigger than they need to be.
As we have developed that relationship already it is much easier to return. I have had many clients who have returned over the years and it is a pleasure and privilege to be part of your journey.
We would also love to get some feedback on your experience with us.
