INDIVIDUAL SUPERVISION FAQ’s
ARE YOU A REGISTERED SUPERVISOR?

Yes I am
I am a Level 4 ACA member, PACFA Clinical and a member of the ACA College of Supervisors.
I am in my 9th year of supervising (as of 2026) and have completed 3000 sessions of supervision. I have extensive experience in supervision, running groups and supporting school counsellors and other supervisors (SoS).
WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?
Answer
Counselling Quals: I hold a Diploma Counselling, Advanced Diploma of Counselling and Family Therapy, Bachelor of Counselling and a Grad Cert in Counselling. I am also a full member of EMDRAA (EMDR Therapist)
Supervision Training: I originally trained in the Rise Up Model of Supervision in 2015 and repeat it in 2020. I delivered supervision training (Rise Up Model) for 4 years. I am currently undertaking a Masters in Supervision
HOW MANY SESSIONS OF SUPERVISION DO I NEED?
Answer
It depends on several factors:
1. Whether you are registered with ACA or PACFA
2. Your client load
2. How experienced you are and if employed whether you receive in-house supervision.
ACA requires a minimum of 10 sessions per registration year to maintain membership, however the ratio is 20 client hours to 1 hour of supervision.
You are responsible for following your assocations guidelines and they can change.

WHAT IF I NEED AN URGENT SESSION
Answer
If you are in need of an urgent discussion in the event of a emergent situation. Please email me rather than phone me. I will aim to ring you as soon as I can. I don’t charge for 15 min but beyond that it is charged at the normal hourly rate.
Please note: I do not see counsellors for emergency situations that have not had supervision with me before.
DO I NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH A PEAK BODY TO ATTEND SUPERVISION?
Answer
The short answer is yes!
However if you are in the process (e.g. just graduated and submitting application) OR are intending to register soon then please contact me to discuss.
I don’t supervise counsellors who have no intention of ever joining an association as I require adherance to a code of ethics.
I only accept ACA and PACFA as these are the 2 peak bodies
Please contact me if you believe you have extenuating circumstances.
WHAT IS A PROVISIONAL MEMBER?
Answer
Please check the ACA website as they are regularly updating things.
But in short, it means that you have completed a diploma of counselling that is not accredited with ACA.
You are required to complete 25 hours of supervision and 1 year of practice before being accepted as level 1 – but please check with ACA as everyone’s circumstances are different.
I provide provisional members a discounted rate for supervision.
HOW MANY GROUP SESSIONS CAN I CLAIM?

Australian Counselling Association allow you to claim ONE 2 hour block of any type of supervision per month.
This is clearly stated on the last page of the supervision guidelines
If you attend one of my groups you can only attend once per month. if you attend a 90 min group you can attend more than once. Please refer to ACA supervision guidelines for more information.

CAN PACFA MEMBERS ATTEND YOUR GROUPS

General ACA Groups: Due to the number limit of PACFA (6 participants) I am only offering these to ACA members currently. Once the National Standards are implemented all groups will decrease to 6 people
School Counsellors Group: This is open to PACFA members as numbers are limited to 6 people
IS IT OK TO ONLY ATTEND GROUP SUPERVISION

ARE YOUR GROUPS OPEN OR CLOSED?

All my groups are open groups, meaning people are welcome to join whenever they like. I don’t offer closed groups currently.
WHAT SORT OF TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED IN YOUR ACA GROUPS?

We discuss anything related and relevant to counselling:
- Client work
- Ethics
- Self-care
- Professional Development
- Career Development
- Study and training
- Employment
- Private Practice (this is an area of speciality of mine)
- Business development
DO I NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH AN ASSOCATION TO JOIN YOUR GROUPS?

The short answer is yes!
However if you are in the process (e.g. just graduated and submitting application) OR are intending to register soon then please contact me to discuss.

DO I NEED TO COME PREPARED FOR GORUP SUPERVISION
Answer
Yes you do! Just as you would not attend individual supervision with nothing to discuss you always come to group with a question, topic, or concern.
I understand that some weeks people will share less and some personalities are less outgoing. However repeated non-preparation and sitting in the background will be addressed individually as this is not what supervision is about.
DO YOU LOCK PEOPLE INTO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF GROUPS?

Absolutely not! My groups are strictly come and go as you please and pay on booking for the one you are attending. No lock in contracts for certain periods of time and no paying up front for multiple sessions.

DO YOU PROVIDE SUPERVISION TO PACFA SUPERVISORS

Yes I can provide superivsion to PACFA supervisors, additionally my SoS groups are also suitable as they are limited to 6 people, handy if you are registered with both ACA and PACFA as supervisors.
CAN I HAVE ONLY GROUP FOR SUPERVISION ON SUPERVISION?

Technically you can at this stage. However just because can do something doesn’t mean you should!
Supervisors are the gatekeepers of the profession and carry a higher responsiblity not only for our supervisees but also their clients and the wider community – therefore if you are not getting sufficient time to discuss your complex supervision cases in group, I believe it should be discussed in individual.
I AM SUPERVISOR BUT NOT REGISTERED AS ONE WITH AN ASSOCIATION - CAN I ATTEND SOS?

The short answer is no as supervision supervisors requires an extra level of accountability. Supervisors who are not registered is not a risk I am willing to take.

HOW MANY GROUP SESSIONS CAN I CLAIM?

Australian Counselling Association allow you to claim 2 hours of group supervision per month.
You are welcome to join more than one session a month – however you cannot claim more than one 2 hour block per month

HOW MANY SUPERVISION SUPERVISION SESSIONS DO I NEED

It depends your supervision load, how experienced you are and if employed whether you receive in-house supervision.
ACA*:
In additional to your counselling supervision, ACA requires a minimum of 10 sessions per registration year to maintain your College of Supervisors membership.
They also recommend a ratio of 20:1 (20 hours to 1 hour of supervision).
This information from ACA is located on the College of Supervisors Application form that you agree to when you join. You are also required to log your supervision on supervision separately in the portal.
PACFA*:
The supervision requirement for registration renewal as an Accredited Supervisor will be:
• 15 hours of formal supervision linked to practice in the previous 12 months;
• It is recommended that 5 hours of the supervision time relates specifically to supervision practice.
